The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (IATA: YTZ, ICAO: CYTZ), lso known as the Toronto Island Airport and formerly called the Toronto City Centre Airport—is a regional airport located on the Toronto Islands, just off downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It supports civil aviation, medical flights, and regional airlines, including Porter Airlines, which exclusively operates turboprop aircraft at the airport.
Billy Bishop Airport has long been a focal point of debate, with community groups and some city leaders advocating to close or limit its operations, while PortsToronto—the airport’s operator—and airlines such as Porter have continued to champion its growth. In 2023, the airport handled approximately 2.8 million passengers, making it Canada’s ninth busiest by passenger count and the busiest regional airport in Ontario. Recent expansions and improvements have also enhanced passenger flow and safety standards. The airport is uniquely accessible via a short ferry ride, which carries foot passengers for free and vehicles for a small fee, as well as a pedestrian tunnel that connects the mainland to the terminal directly—ensuring fast, convenient access to and from downtown Toronto.
The PortsToronto, formerly known as the Toronto Port Authority (TPA), manages the airport and the Toronto harbour. It is a federally incorporated agency governed by directors appointed by the Government of Canada, Government of Ontario, and the City of Toronto.
